Topics We’d Like To See

We’re really looking for in-depth discussions on a range of topics, including politics, international affairs, art, and culture. That includes researching certain aspects of world affairs, giving an opinion on a popular debate and local issues, and writing tutorials and guides for learning new skills.

In terms of subject matter; anything that fits in with people of African descent (or people of colour) anywhere in the world, cross-cultural debate, and the lives and well-being of indigenous populations generally. Take a look at the sorts of posts published here, and you’ll get a feel for the topics. Some examples would include:

• Local and world events, news and politics.
• Health, fitness, sports and lifestyles.
• Design, new media, art and exhibitions.
• Music, entertainment, celebrity gossip and interviews.
• Opinion pieces, researched articles, and analytical journalism.
• Travel, cross-cultural journeys, and ‘How-To-Do’ summaries.

How It Works (Guidelines)

• Authors are given credit for their work. At the end of each post is an About the Author section. Here you can place a picture, a short blurb, and a link back to your site.
• Articles may be edited. Please don’t be offended if we suggest changes, fix grammar, add links, etc. However, no major changes will be made without your approval. It’s still your post.
• Articles must be original. It should be unpublished elsewhere (in exceptional circumstances, we may republish material, provided there is no breach of copyright involved).
• Payments are made per post where a donation is received against your article or an advertiser pays us for referring a customer to them through a link in your post. These events are tracked and recorded and exact amounts will be notified to you immediately. All payments are made by us through PayPal. Some of the things that can influence the amount generated by your post are it’s popularity; how well-written it is, and complexity/uniqueness of your topic.
• You can also claim an extra 5% of any revenue generated by your post, if you reply to 3 comments on your post within 48 hours of it being posted.
• Articles should be between 800 and 5,000 words. Reviews can be shorter, but should be no less than 600 words. Suggested images or audio/video clips to accompany your post are appreciated but not essential.
• Submission does not guarantee publication. Our Editorial team’s decision is final.

Commissioned Articles

• We may commission a post from a writer with whom we have an existing connection. The exact amount of the payment will depend on the quality of the post, but we’ll agree on a rate beforehand.
• The maximum payout is currently $75 per post, and once payment has been made, ownership of the article passes to The Colorful Times. It cannot be re-published elsewhere.
• Things that would influence any decision include, our experience of working with the author, popularity of author’s work, length of post, and complexity/uniqueness of the topic.
• You may also claim an extra $5 per post, if you reply to 3 comments on your post within 48 hours of it being posted.

Follow The Guidelines!

Content is king. The idea is everything. The topic of your post is the most crucial part. The amount of buzz your post creates on Google News for example will be directly related to any cash amount your article generates. Readers want articles where they learn something new, something that they really want to know. Or if a post will solve a problem users commonly run into, that’s good, too. If there isn’t a clear purpose to the post, or if its too basic, it’s not likely to make it.

• Before submitting material, we recommend that you browse through the site to get an idea of the sort of material we publish. We have an eclectic publication policy, but we do not entertain promotional articles, marketing tips, etc.
• We accept submissions from members only–please register.
