At the same time, we habitually find ourselves sanctified, idealised and, inevitably perhaps, commodifed by those who would see us as foot soldiers for some utopian, coffee-coloured future.

Aside from the gregarious seal colony, the Farne Islands have a vast array of life underwater. Rocks are covered in myriad crustaceans, anemones and soft corals like dead men’s fingers. Crabs, lobsters and conger eels hide in the cracks and crevices and the sea-floor is littered in urchins and starfish.

It is perhaps interesting to note that Brazil, used in the programme ‘Is It Better to Be Mixed Race?’ to illustrate a society where upwards of 90% of the population identify as ‘mixed,’ still suffers from gross inequalities based on the colour of one’s skin.
